Front End (React) Engineer

Winter 2022

Meet Instinct 👋

Instinct Science is a growing Greater Philadelphia-based animal health company working on unique technology solutions for state-of-the-art veterinary hospitals across the globe. 

 

We’re seeking an experienced Front End Engineer who is looking for a new career opportunity to be the next member of our growing 50-person team. 

 

The Instinct team is fully distributed, thus geographic location isn’t important as long as you can overlap with our regular business hours (Mon-Fri 8-5 ET).

 

Position Summary 😺 

You will join the Instinct team alongside other experienced engineers to work on creating new features for our growing products. Your contributions and leadership will greatly influence the usability and usefulness of the product.

 

The ideal candidate is efficient, organized, detail-oriented, and motivated to work on challenging yet meaningful work that has the potential to shape an entire profession.

 

Day-to-day work will consist of planning and building new features, being available to your team members, reviewing code, documenting upcoming projects, and releasing your work to our users. You will be part of a close-knit team that is working hard for a better product each day.

 

We’re Looking for Someone With

  • At least 3 years of experience building JavaScript applications

  • Deep understanding of JavaScript and React

  • A high bar for code quality and user experience

  • Ability to think creatively about problems and develop features that solve them foundationally

  • Intuition to challenge and improve our user interface

  • Excitement for building critical interfaces for veterinary hospitals

  • Strong communication skills

 

Bonus Experience 💡

  • Previous work on health care, medical records, veterinary, or pharmacy software

  • Previous work on financial analytics and reporting

  • Previous remote position, preferably as part of a small team

Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist

We’re seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Specialist who is looking for a new career opportunity to be the next member of our growing team. The ideal candidate is efficient, thoughtful, detail-oriented, and motivated by working on challenging yet meaningful work that has the potential to shape the entire profession.

 

The Instinct team is fully distributed, thus geographic location isn’t important as long as you can overlap with our regular business hours (Mon-Fri 8-5 ET).

 

Position Summary 😺 

You will be instrumental in delivering and maintaining high-quality software. Your contributions and leadership will greatly influence the usability and reliability of the product. 

 

Day-to-day work will consist of manually testing software, creating test cases, documenting issues, and tracking development bug fixes and/or new features. Additionally, you will be prioritizing production issues and taking ownership for the quality of our growing application. You will be part of a close-knit team that is working hard for a better product each day.

 

We’re Looking for Someone With

  • Software QA testing experience, preferably with sophisticated software

  • Extensive experience writing and updating manual test cases

  • Deep understanding of the QA testing process and best practices

  • Knowledge of software development processes

  • Experience working closely with a software development team

  • Ability to test software with customer needs and wants in mind

  • Ability to communicate effectively with software engineers

  • Ability to analyze technical requirements and create test cases

  • Strong written communication skills

  • Great attention to detail and excellent time-management skills

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure

  • Experience managing tasks and projects

 

Bonus Experience 💡

  • Jira or a similar software development tool

  • Zephyr test case management

  • Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets

  • Working closely with a software development team

  • Working efficiently as part of a distributed team

  • Veterinary or healthcare industry experience

  • Experience with automated testing
